Guild History & Doctrine
Beautifying ordinary items into exquisite home décor, applying my refined style, enriching the environment with arrays of glitzy bling and elegant images... for the paper becomes the paint as it is all glued together and bonded in a magical work of art.
Creating sticky modge podge messes collaging colorful cut-up catalog scraps and covering crap til it's rainbow blasted and treasure crammed with a glossy shiny bright finish.
Hi! I'm Amanda Hamlin, the creative brain behind the Prismatic Dynamic Retro-Tech Abstract-Tactile Enhanced Collage. This creative endeavor began over 10 years ago as a solution to beautify the chest which housed my jewelry wares - The Royal Glass Bead Treasure Chest, when hot glue and rhinestones chipped away quick and left my trunk looking tacky, I began to decorate with Images from bead magazines and pictures of bling from books and catalogs, as well as trippy images that I printed to adorn the sides simply using another person artwork and pasting it to my item and calling it my own.
Over time, as my process was perfected (in terms of application and glues to use), I ran out of things to decorate. I put all my items aside and took a break for about 8 years before diving back in this year. I was amazed to find the quality of my items were still impressive and since I had shifted from using "items that I liked" to using cut up colorful patterns and designs that everybody would like, how much I still loved these items and how this look can be replicated - if only they followed my method as It has been refined over all this time.
while the aesthetic of my signature style can essentially be copied without a whole lot of guidance, my method, my practice, my essence as an artist, my entire experience in this craft as a multi dimensional experience, has been combined into 12 distinct Aspects which I have attempted to describe for those who would like to join the practice and attempt to create their own masterpieces, or for art lovers, collagers, decoupagers, critics, whoever is enthralled by the….
Prismatic Dynamic Retro-tech Abstract-tactile Enhanced Collage Craft Method With
1. Principles in Visionary Pragmatics,
2. Eco-Conscious Policy Spirit
3. Tactics for Aesthetic Application rooted in handmade Tradition,
4. artistic elements of Balance, Accented Fashions Bright Embellishments

the bold Distracting busy prints with an emphasis in impressive turbulent chaotic patterns based on Plasmatic-Spector mathematics and inspired by Kenya Ankara cloth
Each piece is a true analog collage: A curated collection of cut paper pieces pieced in place by adhesives to achieve cohesion and conceive a please image upon completion
My signature style of collage is mesmerizing like it were Magic Eye!
The Retro-tech Aesthetic is funky yet balanced psychedelic, vibe from a decade behind us, glitchy, tacky, woodstock meets jetsons.
The retro-tech method, is to refrain from using advanced technology and practice in the fashion of those from the past using rudimentary tools. I do Analog hand cut collage, do not print new materials, and source my paper locally - do not purchase online.
The retro-tech essence is absolutely present in these pieces- the papers were all from magazines printed previously, used paper. They are also covering items which were used and worn before I picked them.
I always follow traditional method of my whole procedure .
My Mod Podge Collage arts all follow a certain formula, criteria, created in a method, philosophy, a tradition, a ritual….
My ling term vision is to construct a guild and to build a collective of crafters learned in MY particular unique and refined Style, method, and process for my collage art. The characteristics of this kind of art works to be considered of this kind are:
1. The "In Tact, On Hand" Principle
The canvas must be a tactile item on hand and in tact, On the surface plain bland or scratch in need of pizzazz , its purpose still works but its on its last leg , discarded but not broke or garbage, alas The object/canvass must be a tactile 3-D item that is on hand already
The spirit of keeping handmade crafts, in tact and by hand (anti-AI)
The crafter to embody the spirit of eco-conscious activists and just to be a person with Tact, enough to leave thier pride aside and not attempt to express thier personality and ascribe meaning to the item like a surrealist, and to use materials they have "on hand" before producing or paying for materials.
The Dynamic perspective(s) depends on the item to fit in one's hand, so that it may be enjoyed up close and either sides.
The object, once coated in gloss will exibit a tacky feel, thus In Tact, On Hand
The collage is all hand-cut - Enhance By Hand in Aesthetics and in Essence by Traditional Methods,
Practice the promise to count canvass sides and
analyze dimensions of time - the surface area shall be calculated and ought not be too large to complete without giving up or abandoning
and if the Task At Hand Fits In Hand, consider it a worthy object to consider
The imagined canvas should fit in your hand, this first step is the On Hand, In Tact Principle.
2. The "In Sight, In Commission" Visual Exam and Condition Rule
The imagined canvass must have a use other than displaying art - (Pragmatic essence, personal)
Before accepting the item to decorate, examine it's integrity and accept the limitations of your ability to only enhance the visual aesthetics and cover superficial flaws, but by rule of the In Tact principle, by the end, the actual condition of the item shall remain in tact
The item ideally shall be In Commission, therefore and Item in Use, NOT BROKEN, and already existing in the home and even more ideally, be In Sight
A good item may exihibit: The aesthetics of the item need improvement and/OR the space which it is placed needs sprucing up - to extend the the life span of the item, Renew by Introduce and delay replacement to save money and Upcycle
The Artisan works according to the Tradition to IMPROVE BY RENEWING THE VIEW UPON EXISTINT AND IN USE ITEMS IN ENVIRONMENTS LADEN IN SPRUCE
The item lacking pizzazz last leg shabby application extend life span , last minute interception from trash
The working condition and state of commission for the item picked, should be existent, in sight, and to remain in place.
For the mission to reduce waste, delay replacement (to save money), improve the space where the item is placed by upgrading the view inserting colors a new. Qualifies as the enhancement we fancy
Adopt : When someone is throwing away, "Accept Refuse" Ask to intercept and inspect in gest of rejection, accept refuse to Renew in leiu of proof whence another's choosing to replace
Applied Decision To Pick Pre-Existing Places To Paste Upon Pledge for Better Expression Utilitarian
Principle For The Use Purposeful Possession Proclusion Rule To Reduce Peoples Production - No promises may be made, the item may end up looking like trash
When you pick an item already in the home, it is an auto-matic art exhibit as the artist.
Principle of insight Visionary Placement and creative imagined Canvass Consideration In Places Plain, in need Changed - Without inserting new materials or junk
3. The Paper
The places of collage containments were obtained by Artisan in fewer places, employ resources enormous, convenience and ease, in the paper pursuit- Many issues.
Paper Pursual Aquisition Mission In Material Possesstion to Supply the Project

Best Practices Cut Paper Piece
The internal structures of medieval craft guilds are well known from documents and were generally alike throughout Europe. Assemblies of the guild’s members enjoyed some legislative powers, but the control of guild policy lay in the hands of a few officials and a council of advisers or assistants. The guild tended to be an extremely hierarchical body structured on the basis of the apprenticeship system. (See apprenticeship.) In this structure, the members of a guild were divided into a hierarchy of masters, journeymen, and apprentices. The master was an established craftsman of recognized abilities who took on apprentices; these were boys in late childhood or adolescence who boarded with the master’s family and were trained by him in the elements of his trade. The apprentices were provided with food, clothing, shelter, and an education by the master, and in return they worked for him without payment. After completing a fixed term of service of from five to nine years, an apprentice became a journeyman, i.e., a craftsman who could work for one or another master and was paid with wages for his labour. A journeyman who could provide proof of his technical competence (the “masterpiece”) might rise in the guild to the status of a master, whereupon he could set up his own workshop and hire and train apprentices. The masters in any particular craft guild tended to be a select inner circle who possessed not only technical competence but also proof of their wealth and social position.
The craft guild policed its own members’ professional practices, and guild courts and officials investigated complaints of poor workmanship, unfair competition, and other problems, levying fines on those found in violation of the guild’s rules and standards.
Besides their economic and educational functions, guilds also served other purposes. A guild was often associated with a patron saint, and a local guild would maintain a chapel in the parish church to be used by its members. Guilds performed charitable work, not only among the poor and indigent among their own members but among the community at large. Guilds also built and maintained residences, called guildhalls, in which the membership would hold banquets and conduct official business.
PROCESS DESCRIPTION:
First I choose the piece that needs to be beautified ( or saved) Then I choose the featured image And what color blend to follow Compile a collection of cuts in the choosen color, sometimes pulling from other colors to curate a unique color blend. My cut stash is organized by colors : Pink, Red, Orange, Pinkish-orange, browny orange, yellow, green, bluish green, blue, purple, multi, floral, gold, gems, diamonds, beads of choice, objects, and paintings. • None of the color cuts contain any images they are strictly pulled from colors and designs and patterns in found in books and magazines. In a good cut blend You want as many different kinds of cuts as you can find It is ok to use the same piece a few times but you want to have as much variety as possible as an underlying feature that distinguishes this design from other collages. The best cuts are ones that are richest in detail and highly texturized like that of a fossil, and are close up photos or shrunken images; photo of a crowd from a long distance is good for multicolored mix. The color blend is applied in very small pieces upon the design but you may want to keep them in larger pieces in your collection so you can use it strips and organization I usually cut them in triangles and squares but other shapes may work Once there are enough pieces for the color blend, Pick out some beaded jewelry cuts to enhance the design, as trim to frame the outline and edges. This is the first layer of decoration. Choose a variety of jewels and gem peices to adorn the collage further - the accents must be places in a balanced and thoughful way, in complementary choices . These are precious pieces that If you add too many it can look tacky but when applied with good measure it can really enhance the look. They do not pop out so much as just enhance the close up image. Pick out other design elements like cut strips of gold chains for borders and outlines - these pieces should be cut with the most precision. Decide where the featured image will be placed - either 1 for the entire piece or 1 per side. Now you are ready to actually decorate. Lay down a sheet Around the area so the glue doesn't get everywhere. Cover a large portion of the piece with spray glue. Usually beginning around the edges proceed 2 stick each color cut blend piece to the object. You may leave a space open for the feature image or apply it and very carefully cover around it but otherwise do not any spaces open and try not to overlap much it is like fitting together puzzle to avoid hands getting too sticky I recommend applying lotion periodically or keep some hand sanitizer close by. Briefly assess what you have done to see if there are any blank spaces or if there's anything that stands out particularly and just cover it up with another cut using a glue stick. Usually this is when I eliminate any and all WHITE spots. Continue to cover the entire item being careful for the pieces may come off But if you haven't realized yet the spray glue just acts as a placeholder to get everything on before we apply the modge podge Play around with the Different bead and ornamental cuts you have chosen and Find out what looks good, using the glue stick. keeping In Mind the balance and symmetry, Avoid mixing metals, And realize it's okay to say finally admit that it's just not gonna work Things always start to feel a little crazy at this point because nothing is glued down and it looks like a total mess, BUT it is time to get the Mod Podge Massage going. I have tried several Mod Podge products but the best and only one I will use is the plain regular kind. First I wash my hands because I use them bare to apply it. It is a massage of finesses, gentle at first to press down the edges of paper, get thicker paper wet and moldable, and gradually pressing down tighter to smooth it out and until it feels like 1 cohesive object, smooth. Allow it to dry and evaluate your liking after a day before deciding to keep it.
The last step is to apply a coat of epoxy resin to protect and make the item last. This is also a massage but with gloves and it must be placed on a rack to drop excess below, and then it should be rotated and wiped so the droplets do not harden to the object, and the gloss much be thick enough that it does not puddle.
